System Inspector
FUNCTION:
Inspecting new and altered electrical installations, reviewing plans, approving permits, educating customers and/or their contractors, enforcing codes and standards, and maintaining records.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Inspection of electric facilities.
2 Inspect electrical service entrances up to main overcurrent protection device to ensure compliance with local, NEC, and NESC rules and regulations.
3 Review plans and inspect installations of Distributed Generators and Emergency Generators.
4 Inspect new construction, upgrades, and replacements of electrical facilities.
5 Assist with the progression of work orders.
6 Communicate and meet with customers to address concerns, requests, deficiencies, service problems, and outage planning.
7 Interface with other City departments and other governmental entities.
8 Review of assorted submittals from City Planning department.
9 Assist in the development and revision of construction standards and engineering reference material.
10 Evaluate and recommend construction and operating practices.
11 Assist with system restoration due to storms, failures, and abnormalities.
12 Subject to emergency response after normal working hours.
13 Know, understand, and follow GEUS safety rules, policies, and procedures.
14 Monitor, review and approve the GEUS portion of the City of Greenville issued permits requested for new homes, fences, additions, remodels, accessory buildings, signs and electrical permits for residential and commercial projects.
15 Capable of learning and understanding City of Greenville ordinances associated with construction and new developments that apply to the GEUS system.
16 Capable of representing the utility on many different levels, requiring intuitive thinking and understanding of a wide range of rules and regulations and City ordinances.
The primary responsibilities only include essential functions of the job and does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1 High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
2 Must hold a Journeyman electrician’s license within the State of Texas, at minimum
3 Electric utility related experience.
4 Working knowledge of electrical theory.
5 Proficiency in use of tools and equipment appropriate to job responsibilities.
6 Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management as well as customers, City and state personnel, and personnel from other utilities.
7 Working knowledgeable of NESC and NEC rules and regulations, safety rules, and APPA Safety Manual.
8 Proficiency with standard PC software including MS Office software.
9 Valid Texas driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1 Qualified applicants would preferably hold a Master Electrician License
2 A degree in Electrical Engineering with a history of MEP design is also acceptable.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
1 Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
2 Ability to work outside under adverse conditions
